A thing that you see in my pictures

is that I was not afraid

to fall in love with these people.

This post took me sooooooooo long to put up because I could not decide on what pictures to show, there are so many that I like.  They say that a photographer cannot truly critique his own work because the images cannot be separated from the stories behind them, the feelings and what it took to get the shot, and who the people are.  So I am biased, I like them all because I fell in love with the people in the images.

Dan and Heidi are incredible, beautiful people.

Dan is warm, and kind, and hilarious,

the kind of funny where you always want a seat next to him because it feels so good to laugh that much.

Heidi is calm and has this deep strength, different than anyone else that I have met,

and she laughs the hardest at Dan's jokes.

I suspect most of his jokes were said so that he could hear her laugh.

Do I like smiles?

Yes, but only if they are real and filled with life,

I also like tears.

You see truth is beautiful,

no matter what the expression.

I was way up on a step ladder, wearing shoes that I should not have been wearing on a step ladder, and laughing at my own foolishness but loving it at the same time.

051

No editing, she was standing in front of this small barn/shed and I overexposed it.  The landscape is so bare, open, simple,  I wanted one image that represented that.

those pictures sent absolutely amazing chills up and down my spine...good ones, ones that come from seeing something so awesome you just can't begin to explain. the one with the tears on her face is incredible, but my favourites were the last two. those are ones that i could sit and look at for hours and always see something different. there is such depth and warmth and relationship and beauty...its amazing. keep up the good work.

When I saw the first one, I thought, "She put the best one first!" ~ then I saw the one with the tear and I thought, "Nah ~ THIS one is better yet."  Then I saw the last 3 ~ now I am almost in tears ~

Merry Christmas!

Your love for the people you photograph really comes through and I believe that is what makes your photos so amazing.

I can see why you couldn't decide!  They are all so beautiful.  I'm most impressed with the big group picture!  That picture is worth a million!  I would've loved to have one like it from my own wedding!

(do you notice the profile pic I used here?)

Oh, how beautiful! I am in love with the last image. I also love how you inserted the quotes...you really display raw emotion so well.

How did you do the last photo? Was that with flash or editing? I'd love to know.

Where do you find the quotes? Am curious?

Warmest

Oh, these pictures!!! Amazing! I think I want you to come and shoot pictures for our wedding (we are planning a wedding for our 10th anniversayr next year...due to how our wedding was and how our marriage began! But to show that God has done amazing things over the past going on 10 years! and that it is only through HIM that we are together!!) I'll have to tell you the story sometime! Anyways, we never had good wedding pictures and that is a huge sadness to me! We really didn't have any joy to our wedding at all...and we so want to have those memories!! These pictures just make me excited about that day that we can share with our friends and family!!! Those last two pictures...amazing!!! The one that is over exposed is amazing as well! I love how you just see her face and the window with the landscape! Oh, I think I could comments on them all! The one where you are up on the ladder! I think someone should have taken a picture of you!! :o) Hahaha! The picture is a great idea though! That church in so neat! Ok, I'll be done now!! hahaha! Love these pictures! What a special talent God has given you! I am so glad that you choose to share it with us!

Merry Christmas!!!

I bow down to your greatness.... It's about time a little artistry was brought to the greater Scranton area. It's nice to see a wedding photographer around here who can actually take pictures of people in focus... Look out Rob Laterri

Beautiful...wonderful.  And you were afraid I wouldn't like these?    Or is that a post I haven't seen yet?  My wedding 6+ years ago was actually exactly as I/we wanted it.  40 guests, simple chapel in a small country town in South Africa, did all the cooking, flowers, decorating ourselves...  I went back to the church again in September, with Aria, and sang praises up in the balcony...victorious in some way, that marriage has taken me in startling directions, helped me find myself, and grow/grow/grow creatively.

You're a true artist.

How can I be so far down on the comment list???  grrr.  I want to be president of the mymeanderings fan club!!   Jo, we already talked by phone about these.  You know the last two are my favs and you know that I love each and every single picture you chose to let us see here.  Each one can stand alone in its own right.  Your work is amazing and its an honor and a priviledge to be your sister and friend.  I love you!!!!!!

aunt jo...you take my breath away. could you always see this way? i see the beauty; the raw, stark beauty in objects and people, yet somehow you capture that beauty. God has blessed you with the gift of expressing and sharing what most of us vaguely feel and wonder at, helplessly. if i am ever half the photographer that you are, i will be satisfied...

by the way, i love the book(understanding exposure), and i have learned many great things from it, although i must say that i don't really agree with a lot of his storytelling pictures...maybe it's just me, but they seem cluttered and unemotional....maybe i'm too picky...but i look through a hundred pictures, and i keep two...is this normal? i think i'm defective;)- love ya....

Jo~ Thanks for the very kind words! We're so undeserving of your work!! :) I love that we had time to hang out with you that weekend in the midst of crazy preparation and that you got to take in South Dakota. Then, to see you again in May was such a blessing! We have ties in Scranton (now also to you!) so I hope we will be back and get to see you again soon! We'll keep in touch... please do the same! May God continue to bless your amazing ministry of art!
